This is obviously just my opinion, and you don't have to agree with my little rant that's about to take place...
First off, flip flops are cute! They're great to wear at the beach, they're great to wear to the pool, but for Christmas sake, do NOT wear them as a form of fashion! And personally, it grosses me out walking in New York and seeing someone in front of me wearing flip flops, then seeing how dirty their feet are--and then knowing how those people go into a restaurant or walk around in their home or even get into bed with those flip flop feet.
I don't know why this is a guy thing, but men wear flip flops when they travel. They wear them on the plane and in the bathrooms and... it's gross. Again, it's just my opinion, and certainly a pet peeve.
I have an obsession when I'm standing in line whether at Starbucks or at the airport where I find myself looking at shoes and feet. Honestly, people's feet are really not the most attractive part of someone's body, and flip flops do nothing to cover up that fact.
So again: beach, pool, for the summer...or keep 'em at home. Simple as that.

Yay! I agree. As a stay at home mom, wearing flip flops all the time is a "frump" statement. So I have nice shoes for when I do my grocery shopping or run errands. And in the Texas summer...those nice shoes are heeled sandals with open toes...whew, but it gets hot down here! :)

I am so glad to see this. I can't believe that people actually think that flip flops are an acceptable choice of footwear outside of your own home (a friend's father wore flip flops to her graduation!!!!) Beach, pool, and .... nothing else. That's it! I don't care how hot it is; I don't care that you live in Florida (I do; we don't wear flip flops and my 16 year old is not allowed to wear them either. We have survived the heat for the last 10 years; trust me!). Show some class, please, and keep dirt and germs off your body. Disgusting.

However, although I like to wear sandles most of the time; and do wish I could wear them even when it rains, I only wear my flip flops when running downstairs to the mail box, doing laundry or meeting the pizza guy at the entry door. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, I always wash my feet before going to bed anyway. That takes care of the dirt. Thanks David for your post!!! I absolutely love your show!!!
ReplyDeleteMy fiance says the same thing...He knows as soon as the weather breaks the flip flops are coming out. I honestly think he throws them away at the end of every season because I always have to buy new ones :-) It's easy for men to make these comments when they don't have to walk the streets of NYC in heels. Although, here is a double standard for you....I hate it when men wear flip flops unless they are at the beach.
